We're a financial cooperative that does things differently

We create solutions that help people achieve their financial and life goals. We’re equally dedicated to helping our team members flourish personally and professionally. As an award-winning employer for our admired corporate culture, for psychological safety, and as one of BC’s Top Employers, we’re known for inspiring and supporting individuals to connect with their purpose and grow their career.

Shared workplace values are the secret of our success

Attracting talented individuals who believe the same things we do is crucial in serving members with remarkable banking experiences. It’s why we’re upfront about who we are and what you can expect when you apply for a career at our credit union.

We know you can do great things

We see what you have to offer and we welcome your skills, knowledge and experience as we work together, creating a future where everyone can flourish. Our promise is to do the same for your career development. We support you to do things that matter and celebrate your accomplishments.

Feel genuinely rewarded

We’re serious about helping you flourish—whether that’s mental health coverage and resources, topping up your parental leave so you can focus on your family, or a no-interest Live Well loan to use for pursuits that support your health and education. In addition to performance-based compensation and feeling valued for your work, as a team member you can tailor our banking advantages, health benefits, group RRSP matching, flexible work arrangements and more rewards for your lifestyle and wellbeing

Make meaningful impact

As a credit union, we’re powered by giving back—in big ways and through small gestures. That’s why we offer team members paid time off to volunteer (which adds up to over 3,000 hours annually), partner with thousands of local charities, build long-lasting relationships that help our members get ahead, commit to environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, and even make time on a rainy day to help a stranger start their car (true story!). It’s in our roots to improve the lives of members and communities—and that’s a great feeling.

Flourish in an inclusive environment

Your individuality is welcome here. We’re intentional about fostering a workplace where belonging and uniqueness go hand-in-hand. That’s why diversity is woven through our organization—to transform, enable and empower team members to flourish! You’ll see it in the involvement and influence of team member-led network groups , equitable hiring practices, and education programs that address barriers and raise awareness for equity, diversity and inclusion as part of our culture.

Elevate your potential

Do you want a seat at the leadership table? Or maybe you’re keen to fight financial cyber crime? Maybe you’d love to help a family buy their first home! Wherever your purpose leads, we’re here to support you. If taking the next step means elevating your skills, you have award-winning in-house training programs, access to LinkedIn Learning, and reimbursement for external courses to help you get ahead. And connect with your personal career Yoda through mentorship, which unlocks experienced advice and guidance between colleagues. When opportunities open up, over 50% are filled by current team members advancing and exploring new career paths. Bring your ambition and let’s see where you grow!

A commitment to equity, inclusion & diversity

We believe in cultivating an environment in which every team member, member and community partner is valued for their uniqueness. We’ve challenged ourselves to move beyond aspiration towards genuine commitment by providing ongoing training for all team members, leaders and our board of directors. We’re also enabling a cross-functional workgroup and fostering affinity groups that bring together those wishing to effect change and elevate marginalized groups by removing barriers and better understanding their lived experiences.

I feel encouraged and empowered, not only as an Indigenous person, but as a female Indigenous person. Here at First West, I get to work alongside my leaders and colleagues as a member of the Indigenous Employee Network. We (and our other team member-run groups) are all part of creating a culture that welcomes people as they are. The ways we listen, learn and ask questions together are a meaningful experiece for me.
