Randy Bertsch

President, Island Savings

As president of Island Savings, a division of First West Credit Union, Randy Bertsch leads advisory sales teams serving Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands. This includes the regional oversight of retail, business and commercial banking as well as insurance and wealth advisory services. Across its Duncan-based regional office and 16 Island Savings branch, First West employs close to 450 employees and manages a portfolio of $2.8 billion in its Island Savings region.

Randy brings a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge to First West and his role as regional president. He began his financial service industry career in 1978 working with Bank of B.C. for seven years in various sales, administrative and audit roles. He then joined the trust industry where for the next 10 years he worked with Yorkshire, Central Guaranty and Royal Trust, holding various leadership roles and working in numerous offices across Canada. Randy joined the credit union system in 1993 with Richmond Savings before joining what was then Island Savings Credit Union in 1995 as chief operations officer, a role he held until Island Savings became a division of First West Credit Union in 2015.

Randy is an active volunteer and has served on a variety of boards and committees. He is currently a board member of the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation and a cabinet member of the Vancouver Island University capital raising project. He is past-chair of the Cowichan Lodge Foundation as well as past founding-chair of the Cowichan Seniors Community Foundation.  Randy also sits as a judge for the Top 20 Under 40 Business and Community Awards, Vancouver Island and is a member of the McKay CEO Forum Group.
