Courage to be different

Over the past two years or so, the team here at First West has been on a journey to create something new among financial institutions in Canada, especially credit unions. We’ve learned that it takes courage to be different and to lead.

I was reminded of this recently when I received a forward of this video interview of Seth Godin. He also touches on many elements of servant leadership, an approach that I identify with. Seth also has some really great ideas on what I call the thrill of leadership: leadership is not knowing what’s going to happen next, but knowing it’s going to take you where you want to go.

That’s the journey we’re on. We’re writing a story that hasn’t been written before, so we don’t always know all things that will come—but we’re very certain the direction we’re going is the right one. Every decision, every experience, every step taking us forward to where we want to be.
