Jim Lamond

Chief Credit Officer

As chief credit officer for First West Credit Union, Jim Lamond is responsible for credit policy, adjudication and recovery at First West. In addition, he provides senior management oversight and credit adjudication for First West Capital and First West Leasing.

Since joining the financial services industry in 1977, Jim has built a broad base of industry knowledge and expertise through roles in retail lending, branch management, operations, commercial banking and most recently, credit and risk. Jim has been instrumental in establishing the credit and risk policies for First West to ensure the organization can continue to meet members’ needs while operating efficiently in the complex financial services environment.

Over the span of his career, Jim has put his skills to work for a charted bank and across the B.C. credit union system. He has managed hundreds of multi-phased developments and also financed the first P3 highways project in British Columbia. Of note is Jim’s time spent with the Royal Bank of Canada as a senior account manager for Aboriginal banking in the Thompson-Nicola region where he managed more than 20 First Nations credit facilities.

Jim has a Lean black belt, the highest level of Lean process efficiency certification, and is one of only a handful of black-belted individuals at First West. He is also one of First West’s key connections with regulators having worked directly with the Financial Institutions Commission in both his credit and risk leadership roles. Beyond First West, Jim is also a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals.

Jim has been active in many community ventures, either as a participant or volunteer, and has served on a number of non-profit boards, including time as chair of the Kamloops YMCA-YWCA and as a board member for the Canadian Home Builders Association.
